Camus
Albert Camus (IPA: ) (November 7, 1913 – January 4, 1960) was a French author and philosopher. Although he is often associated with existentialism, Camus preferred to be known as a man and a thinker, rather than as a member of a school or ideology. He preferred persons over ideas. In an interview in 1945, Camus rejected any ideological associations: “No, I am not an existentialist. Sartre and I are always surprised to see our names linked....” (Les Nouvelles litteraires, November 15, 1945). Camus was the second youngest recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature (after Rudyard Kipling) when he became the first African-born writer to receive the award in 1957. He is also the shortest-lived of any literature laureate to date, having died in a car crash only three years after receiving the award. Camus in the news
There is a scene in The Plague, the relentessly grim post-war novel by existential icon Albert Camus, that still shocks: the hopeless, tortured death struggle of a beloved child - made worse by his father’s plea to the protagonist Dr. Rieux to “save my boy.” It's a scene that does not dissolve; it remains with anyone who reads it. Des hackers exploitent la tragédie du Camus de Virginia Tech pour installer un cheval de Troie sur le poste du victime... The long journey started five years ago, on a quiet afternoon at Juneau-Douglas High School, as a student sat alone in the commons area reading Albert Camus' novel 'The Stranger.' In mid-March the road ends at the U.S. Supreme Court, where the nationally watched 'Bong Hits 4 Jesus' case will test the limits of free speech in public schools.
