A 2005 cover of XXL, featuring Snoop Dogg and The Game.

XXL is a hip-hop magazine from Harris Publications. The magazine's editor-in-chief is Elliott Wilson.

Since 1997, XXL has competed with hip-hop powerhouses such as The Source magazine and Vibe magazine. It was started by former Source staffers James Bernard, Robert Marriott and Reginald Dennis, as well as others who wanted to create a better magazine than The Source, which they saw as compromised because Benzino, a Boston, Massachusetts-based rapper and associate of The Source publisher David Mays, allegedly influenced the editorial content and rating system.

XXL's goal was to provide their readers with the best talent, thus they established the motto "Hip-Hop on a Higher Level." They scored major advertising after The Source was taken over by Benzino and launched a battle against Eminem. Hip-Hop labels Def Jam and Interscope offered the magazine most of their advertising and access to their feature artists. The sales increased with their February 2003 cover of Eminem, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent, which was subtitled "The Real Hip-Hop is Over Here." After the cover, XXL's average readership increased.

By 2005, subscriptions had increased to 800,000 with an average readership of two million.. In August 2005, XXL achieved its goal of becoming the best selling hip-hop magazine.. The magazine's editor-in-chief Elliott Wilson is also a member of New York City's "ego trip" collective which partnered with VH1 to create ego trip's Race-O-Rama! television special in 2005 and The (White) Rapper Show in 2007.

In December 2006, XXL took the hip-hop producer/DJ magazine Scratch (another title owned by Harris Publications) under its wing, with Elliott Wilson acting as Editorial Director. It's now called "XXL Presents Scratch Magazine."

Other titles with limited runs have also been launched under the XXL umbrella, including Hip-Hop Soul, Eye Candy Magazine and Shade45 Magazine.

A chef in Taiwan has been criticized for reportedly serving a deep fried, sauce-covered fish with its head still twitching. Animal lovers have slammed the practice, saying deep frying the fish while alive puts it through extreme pain. The dish - called yin yang fish - is popular in China, where chefs use it to show customers how fresh the food is.
