Spahn RanchThe Spahn Ranch is a 500 acre ranch at 1200 Santa Susana Pass Road in the Santa Susana Mountains. It is best known as one of the residences of Charles Manson and his group of followers commonly referred to as "The Family", who lived there in the spring of 1968. The ranch, once owned by silent film actor William S. Hart, was used to film many westerns, including Duel in the Sun and episodes of Bonanza and The Lone Ranger. A Western village movie set formerly stood there, but was totally destroyed by a wildfire in November, 1970. The ranch gets its name from dairy farmer George Spahn, who purchased the ranch in 1948. Mr. Spahn was a resident of the ranch when he was very elderly, along with the Manson Family. Charles Manson asked his follower Lynette Fromme to sleep with Spahn, and thus the Mansonites got free lodging at the Spahn Ranch. See Also

Christina Pratt pounds on a drum as clients meditate during a workshop called ‘Masks of Illusions and the Authentic Self’ at Seven Springs Ranch in Dixonville. Pratt, an author and shaman, recently published An Encyclopedia of Shamanism. She has studied with shamans in Ecuador, Nepal, Tibet and Africa. He lamented, in his own way, that he is unloved these days and reflected on the \'war fatigue\' that has gripped his country. He looked forward to the day, not so long from now, when he will retire to his Texas ranch and tell himself that he did the right thing. Lady Bird Johnson will return to the spot where she bid a tearful farewell to her husband more than three decades ago, as she is buried alongside the former president on their beloved Hill Country ranch.
