The Art of War is an album by rap group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony which was released on July 29, 1997. The Art of War was a major departure from the group's darker, E. 1999 Eternal style, with Bone finding more to talk about on their songs. Originally rumored to be called "DNA Level C" (Cleveland backwards), The Art of War was created as a war against all the rappers that Bone felt were copying their style and orignality, as well as those who accused Bone of doing the same. Do or Die, Crucial Conflict, Twista & The Speedknot Mobstas, Bone Killas, Three 6 Mafia, and Tommy Wright III were all targets of Bone's outlash. Many tracks were altered by Tomica Wright who was trying to lead Bone into a new direction. These tracks included "Thug Luv" (with Sylk E Fyne), "If I Could Teach the World", "Friends", "Ready 4 War", "It's All Mo Thug", "Handle the Vibe" (which Flesh was cut from), and many others. Ruthless also failed to mention Flesh-n-Bone appearing in a song on the credits list. They also changed the name of Friends for the cassette version to "How Many of Us Have Them". When Layzie Bone spit his verse for "Thug Luv", he found the name for the album when he said, "It's my Art of War". The first single for this album was "Look into My Eyes" which was also on the Batman and Robin soundtrack. The next single was "If I Could Teach the World". "Thug Luv" and "Body Rott" were also released for the radio. When recording "Thug Luv", Tupac Shakur was late for the recording session and had only five minutes to come up with his verse.
