The Datsuns

30% more efficiency by 2020? 35 mpg? I bought a Datsun 210 in 1981 that got 45 mpg on the highway, 35 in the city. If the technology existed 25 years ago to do this, I have to believe we can still do it today. It's just that lots of folks do not want to buy and drive cars that small because gas prices are not high enough to make them want to yet.

Except for among you Z-car enthusiasts, the name Datsun isn't well remembered today. But we all know the brand name that replaced it: Nissan. Likewise, the name Daewoo, which we had come to associate with a strong brand of earthmoving equipment, has been changed to a new brand designation: Doosan. Nissan Motor is suing Nissan Computer for trademark infringement, trademark dilution and cyber-squatting, seeking 10 million dollars in damages. This after more than 20 years of Mr. Nissan's well-documented prior use of his family name for business purposes in the United States, and which he commenced when the cars were known as DATSUN.
