The Decemberists are a five-piece indie pop band from Portland, Oregon, fronted by singer/songwriter Colin Meloy. Their debut EP, 5 Songs, was self-released in 2001. Their fourth full-length album, The Crane Wife, was released on 3 October 2006 by Capitol Records, and is their first appearance on a major label. Chris Funk interviewed for Phillyist.com. Talk all about their current (July 2007) tour to Philadelphia which they will be playing with the Philadelphia Orchestra. All of their music was arranged to be played with a FULL orchestra. Very interesting. Funk talks about the process, his nerves and what he's looking forward to.... Some came clutching a copy of "Adverbs. " A couple of teenagers sported jeans covered with copiously copied lyrics from albums by the Decemberists... Indie rock band playing with the L.A. Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl. Gee, that sounds familiar... Perhaps, as with the Decemberists, this will turn into a whole orchestral tour? Please?
