The Rasmus

Rasmus Lerdorf is talking about security with Joomla! Developers at OSCMS 2007 Conference.

Rasmus Lerdorf (born November 22, 1968 in Qeqertarsuaq, Greenland) is a Danish-Greenlandic programmer and the creator of the PHP programming language. He authored the first two versions. Rasmus also participated in the development of later versions of PHP led by a group of developers including Andi Gutmans and Zeev Suraski, who later founded Zend Technologies. In 1993 he graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Systems Design Engineering. Since September 2002, he has been employed by Yahoo! Inc. as an Infrastructure Architecture Engineer.

During his keynote presentation at OSCMS 2007 Conference, Rasmus presented a security vulnerability in each of the projects represented at OSCMS this year.

    The Rasmus in the news

As part of an ongoing series at the music blog Largehearted Boy, author Ned Vizzini interviews the founder of the Internet Nirvana Fan Club.

The seeds of Web 2.0 were planted in 1994 when Rasmus Lerdorf released a set of Perl scripts called PHP. Eventually PHP became a language in its own right, albeit a crappy one. PHP was critical in that it allowed less-than-mediocre programmers to create rich web applications.

Rasmus Lerdorf, the programmer who authored PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor), an open-source language that can be embedded into HTML to produce dynamic pages, admits to practicing what he calls "hygienic" surfing, operating two browsers at a time.
