Youngstown is a city that serves as the county seat of Mahoning County, in Ohio. Situated on the Mahoning River, Youngstown lies 65 miles (105 km) southeast of Cleveland and about 62 miles (100 km) northwest of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The city was named for John Young, an early settler from Whitestown, New York, who established the community's first sawmill and gristmill. Youngstown is located in a region of the United States that is commonly referred to as the Rust Belt. Traditionally known as a center of steel production, Youngstown was forced to redefine itself when the U.S. steel industry shifted production overseas in the 1970s, leaving many communities in the region without major industry. As of the 2000 census, Youngstown had a total population of 82,026, making it Ohio's eighth largest city. According to the US Census 2006 estimate, the Youngstown-Warren Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) contains around 586,939 people and includes Mahoning and Trumbull counties in Ohio, plus Mercer County in Pennsylvania. The Steel Valley area as a whole (including Youngstown-Warren and Sharon-Farrell-New Castle, Pennsylvania) comprises around 697,481 residents. Youngstown lies 10 miles (16 km) west of the Pennsylvania state line and is centrally located between New York City and Chicago, and more locally between Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Bush’s 1,600-acre ranch. He said he was visiting his sister Youngstown's City fest fireworks show, a big pile of large firecrackers totaling over one million. I was following Guy, the pyrotechnician around when he threw the flare into the pile igniting the firecrackers. I knew the excitement was about to begin.
